Accounting Definition:
Systematic recording,
reporting, and analysis of financial transactions of a business
consistent with accepted standards.
There's no business like show business, but there are several
businesses like accounting. - David Letterman (1947 - )
Let's talk about how to fill out your 1984 tax return. Here's an often
overlooked accounting technique that can save you thousands of dollars:
For several days before you put it in the mail, carry your tax return
around under your armpit. No IRS agent is going to want to spend hours
poring over a sweat-stained document. So even if you owe money, you can
put in for an enormous refund and the agent will probably give it to
you, just to avoid an audit. What does he care? It's not his money. Dave
Barry (1947 - ), "Sweating Out Taxes"
What’s done we partly may compute, But know not what’s resisted.
- Burns, Robert
Nobody was ever meant, To remember or invent, What he did with every
cent. - Frost, Robert
Y’see it’s sort of a game with me. Its whole object is to prove that
two plus two equals four. That ... - Trumbo, Dalton
Careful accounts make for long friendships. - Chinese proverb
“He who accounts all things easy will have many difficulties”
Lao Tzu insights (Chinese Taoist Philosopher, founder of Taoism, wrote

“Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as two
or three, and not a hundred or a thousand instead of a million count
half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb-nail.” - Henry David
Thoreau insights (American Essayist, Poet and Philosopher, 1817-1862)
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion,
butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance
accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give
orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem,
pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently,
die gallantly.”
Robert Heinlein (American science-fiction writer,1907-1988)
“In this age of electronic money, investors are no longer seduced by a
financial 'dance of a thousand veils.' Only hard and accurate
information on reserves, current accounts, and monetary and fiscal
conditions will keep capital from fleeing precipitously at the first
sign of trouble.” - Larry Summers
“I firmly believe that all human beings have access to extraordinary
energies and powers. Judging from accounts of mystical experience,
heightened creativity, or exceptional performance by athletes and
artists, we harbor a greater life than we know. There we go beyond those
limited and limiting patterns of body, emotions, volition, and
understanding that have been keeping us in dry-dock. Instead we become
available to our capacity for a larger life in body, mind, and spirit.
In this state we know great torrents of delight.”
Jean Houston
“Mythology: the body of a primitive people's beliefs, concerning its
origin, early history, heroes, deities and so forth, as distinguished
from the true accounts which it invents later”
Ambrose Bierce (American Writer, Journalist and Editor, 1842-1914)
“If you can remember dreams of flying and soaring like a bird, or
dancing, or singing more perfectly than you ever thought possible, you
know that no second -hand accounts of such events could ever give you
the thrill you felt in the dream” - Gayle Delaney
“A man who has work that suits him and a wife, whom he loves, has
squared his accounts with life” - Friedrich Hegel insights (German
Philosopher. 1770-1831)
“There is a progression of understanding vis-a-vis pro football that
varies drastically with the factor of distance -- physical, emotional,
intellectual and every other way. Which is exactly the way it should be,
in the eyes of the amazingly small number of people who own and control
the game, because it is this finely managed distance factor that
accounts for the high-profit mystique that blew the sacred institution
of baseball off its ''national pastime'' pedestal in less than fifteen
years.” Hunter S. Thompson (American Journalist and Author,
1937-2005)
“In reality, serendipity accounts for one percent of the blessings we
receive in life, work and love. The other 99 percent is due to our
efforts.” - Peter McWilliams
